Living in Hurghada –how to deal with the taxi drivers!

Hi there!!:-) Today: what about a taxi trip??!!

If you are new to Hurghada and you still do not have your own lovely car you need to deal with the lovely taxi driversJ . Here some rules:

  • Ask for the price before getting in the taxi - short trips ( ~3km) 5 LE, longer trips (up to ~8 km) 10 LE –it helps a lot if you just knows some Arabic words, so he knows you are not one of the “generous” and uninformed tourists who pays 50 LE for a trip of 5km
  • If you are not sure about the adequate price just take a taxi with a taximeter - but insist that he switch it on –but don’t be surprised if he will not accept. Solution: wait for the next taxi!
  • Women should sit at the back seat because a lot of the guys are very pushy and it is better to keep a certain distance
  • If you feel dizzy or bad because of the high speed, just tell him with a smile “Michael Schumacher, please, schweia schweia, not that fast, please”
  • After arriving at your destination don’t get be involved in discussions about the price, on which he agreed before, just pay and get out the taxi with a smiley and a “schukran” (thanks)!!!

Have a nice trip, see you next Thursday!!:-)
