Living in Hurghada –going out: my perfect evening!

Hello everybody:-D

I am now almost six months in Hurghada and I really feel like home. I still do not know every place to go but I do my very best to check more and more locations.

For a nice evening I like Drifters or Café del Mar very much. Both have European Food. I love Egyptian Restaurants as well but sometimes I have to enjoy a delicious dinner like in Germany.

A very good Shisha we drink or smoke (what is the right expression??? We are still discussing because in Arabic you drink a Shisha) at a café called Meshmesha in New Hurghada, next to the Esplanada Mall. But just go there when you have a lot of time…a waiter is a waiter because you have to wait (citation Natalie:-D).

At night I love to go to Hedkandi in Sekalla, a nice beach bar which has a closed and an open part to chill out and dance.

To check out this locations go to www.spotredsea.com , fill in the names in the “Search the Red Sea” field!

Take a camera with you to complete the listings with images and leave your reviews:-D Thanks and bye bye

Communication part 2 - 7 Principles of Influence

How to Win People's Cooperation

Influence is the art of winning people's cooperation when you do not have, or do not want to use, the authority to make them do what you want them to do. It involves shaping the way people feel and think.

1. Make people feel understood.
Spend less time trying to make people understand what you want, and more time making them feel understood. In an ideal world people might make decisions, commitments, and judgments based on logic and sound reasoning. But in this world people act in response to their preferences, feelings, and social influences they're not even aware of. If they trust you and feel that you care about them, they are much more likely to cooperate with you.

2. Find common ground.
Show people how their needs, values, and dreams mesh with yours. To do so, you have to understand their values and concerns. See things from their point of view. Be sympathetic with their feelings. Then show them how cooperating with you can help them achieve what they want.

3. Listen.
Listening is the best way to make people feel understood and, at the same time, to find common ground. Ask open-ended questions, the kind that invite people's careful consideration and honesty. Try to understand what people mean, without getting hung up on the literal meaning of their words. And acknowledge their thoughts and feelings (which isn't the same thing as agreeing with them).

4. Don't argue.
In business (and at home, too) the person you defeat in an argument today may be the person whose cooperation you need tomorrow. Arguments make people stake out positions and defend them. And the more you try to prove them wrong, the harder they will resist you. People may feel overwhelmed and stop arguing with you. But that doesn't mean you've won them over. Most of the time, when you win an argument, you lose an ally.

5. Care about the people you want to influence.
If you are concerned about the people you're trying to win over, if you value their needs and dreams, they'll know it. And they'll reciprocate. They'll communicate more freely, speaking their mind more openly and listening more attentively. They'll give you the benefit of the doubt. And they'll want to cooperate.

6. Help people believe change is possible.
People often know, although they won't often admit, that they need to change. They feel a vague uneasiness, sensing that things won't pan out the way they want. But they persist in doing what they've always done, thinking they're doing the best they can. Show them a better way, but more importantly, convince them that it's possible. Don't just give them a solution. Offer them hope.

7. Time your request well.
There's a time and a season for everything, especially for asking for support. When people are feeling stressed out, anxious, angry, resentful, or threatened, they're not really receptive. Do what you can to reassure them and to make them feel safe, and you increase your chances of winning their support. Look for "moments of influence,"

Living in Hurghada – how to meet other women for friendship?

Although having nice friends after five months in Hurghada I joined yesterday a new group called:

“Lotus” – New Women Multiactivities Non Profit Organisation

Lotus meets in the Zarbagad Mall every Wednesday from 8pm to 11pm during the winter period.

Almost 25 women showed up and it was really interesting and funny! Ladies from the Netherlands, France, Egypt and Germany ( I am still the only one- unbelievable) between 25 and 55 years build up friendships, spent a nice time together and support each other. They organize workshops like cooking, literature, Egypt story, gym, crochet & broidery, games etc.

If you want to join the group you can mail to: lotus-hurghada@hotmail.com or just drop in the Restaurant Pescada in the Zarbagad Mall!

I will go next Wednesday again, for sure!

We, at Spot Local, use signatures! But why?

We all send email, every day. Maybe we send tens of even hundreds of emails, each and every day. And if your emails don't include a link to your websites at the bottom then you really are wasting an advertising opportunity.

This link, or text, is known as an email signature file.

If you use a web-based email service, like AOL or Hotmail.com, then it will be possible to create an email signature, that you can use for all your emails. If you use an email client like Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express, then it's fairly straight-forward to set up several signatures that you can pick and choose from.

Communication - Part one: Listening

Communication skills are some of the most highly prized and sought-after skills in business. And they are equally essential at home. Without communication skills we are unable to let others know what we think, feel, or want to accomplish. We are unable to build partnerships, motivate others, or resolve conflict.
Studies show that as professionals rise higher in an organization, communication skills become more important, not less.

Today's leaders don't have all the answers. (How can they?) But they know how to find the answers and, more importantly, they know how to help others find the answers.

Leaders today are listeners. They listen up, down, and all around their organization. They listen in order to:

  • Pick up on problems before they get out of hand
  • Uncover the causes of miscommunication and conflict
  • Understand people's motives, values, and feelings
  • Build rapport and mutual respect
  • Discover trends that drive the way business gets done
  • Gather and evaluate ideas
  • Generate solutions

The kind of listening that leaders do requires a new mindset — a combination of humility ("I don't know everything") and confidence ("I'm smart enough to learn"). It brings out the best in other people, recognizing and valuing their experience. And it creates the kind of collaboration and energy that drives a winning organization.

IE Continues to prove that it sucks

Today I was making a task of enabling the browser back/forward buttons to navigate through actions done by javascript, which in English means if you for example opened a message in you email inbox and clicked back to get back to your inbox, you can see the inbox page, this sounds to be normal but if these actions were done originally using Javascript you will feel it.

so I tried the normal solution which is appending the actions into the urls as hash values to the end of the url, so the browser feels the change and when you click on back, you get the expected behavior, but unfortunately all browsers saves history records for the hashes except the IE of Microsoft, which doesn't for no reason.

I looked that up and I found an interesting table here

IE 7

FF 2

Opera 9

Safari 2 Mac

Safari 3 Win beta

Safari 3 Mac beta
URL changes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes
Creates history entry No Yes Yes Yes Not on first page Yes
Back doesn't kill timers Yes Yes Not in 9.23
Yes in 9.10
Yes Yes Yes
Back enables forward Yes Yes Yes Yes Sometimes Yes
location.hash reflects changes in the url Yes Yes Yes No Yes Yes

The only solution I found is via using a hidden iframe inside the page. I am working on it, I will keep you updated.

Living in Hurghada – winter time is coming, brrrr

Hi everybody!

Now it is getting colder and colder in Hurghada – winter time is coming now. While tourists are still walking around in their summer dress European residents are starting to wear boots and pullovers. When I came here I could not believe that I will feel cold as well...hey, I am German , so how can I freeze in Egypt?? Never...

One of my colleagues told me: “Wait until November and you will see…buy a heater now..later it will be more expensive!”

And she was really right!

Now I tried to buy boots –no way for me because I have size 42 and this is in Hurghada almost impossible to get…and I do not believe in the comments of the shop assistants: It will get bigger after wearing it some days…hm, yes, nice idea, bye bye.

Nice clothes and boots until size 41 you get e.g. in some shops in New Hurghada, Esplanada.
I have to wait until February when I will be back in Germany to get my boots, grrrr.

If you want to move to Hurghada and you are a female “big foot “like me: Do not forget to bring your boots from Europe!!

Use Yahoo! Answers to Promote Your Site

Yahoo! Answers is a great little question and answer site by the people for the people. Yes, you will find time wasters on there, but you will also find serious people with serious problems that they want solving. And your site may well contain the answer they are looking for.

So, work out what content you particularly want to promote on your website, and what the relevant keywords are. Then search Yahoo! Answers for opens questions waiting to be answered. (Advanced search lets you do this.) For example, I answer questions related to sending free sms text messages,so my keyword search is "free sms".

Now, answer the question as well as you can. It will add to your credibility as a member of Yahoo! Answers, and you may even be awarded Best Answer (you get 10 points for a best answer). And -- the point of the exercise -- put a relevant link to your site so that people can find out more. Only when appropriate, mind.

And if you can't answer the question or if you're not able to link to relevant content on your site - well, that just means you now know what further content to create on your site, doesn't it!

Alt for koldt...

- Man laerer altid noget nyt!! Derfor har jeg simpelthen medbragt mig en kaempe vinterjakke fra Danmark, indkoebt en dyne og er flyttet vaek fra lejligheden med den "Luftige vintervind"

Vinteren er paa vej!!!!!
